The book titled, “Sweetness: The Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton” written by Jeff Pearlman uncovers details about Payton's personal struggles.
The author says he interviewed over 600 people for the book. The controversial book alleges Payton misused painkillers like Vicodin and Darvon. Popping them like they "were a snack" as the author describes Payton's misuse.
The book also states Payton had adulterous affairs. His struggles with depression and suicide are revealed. It's not a pretty picture for the Hall of Fame NFL player. Walter Payton died from bile duct cancer in 1999. This book stirred up so much controversy, the family came in to defend his name.
